Dare to be different!
One of the main purposes of a logo is to make you immediately recognisable and identify you from your competition, but it’s no easy task to create a logo both simple and unique, but if done right it should set you apart and be distinctively yours.
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but not when it comes to logo design.
It’s pointless spending time designing an awesome logo if it’s virtually identical to a competitor. Designing a logo is the perfect opportunity to create a mark that genuinely reflects the personality of your business. Check out the competition, see what’s already out there, what works and what doesn’t! What colour palette they use? If it’s an organics company and everyone else is using green as their primary brand colour… why not try something different! If the majority are using a leaf as a mark or emblem, then don’t do the same. Are you unique? Is your business different? If the answer is yes, then why copy someone else?
A good logo has the power to communicate who you are, what you stand for and create a great first impression… after all, you only get one, so make sure it’s a good one! By copying what most companies are doing because you want to fit in and you think that’s what you should be doing is never a good idea if you want to get noticed. The goal of a logo is to differentiate your business in the marketplace no matter how busy it is.
People recognise logos, they represent your business in its purest form. Whether it’s a wordmark, an emblem, monogram, a dynamic mark, pictorial, abstract, symbolic or a combination, your logo will appear everywhere. It is literally the face of your company and communicates the uniqueness of your product or service to the outside world. If your logo is the same as everyone else’s, what message do you think it will be conveying? That your product is just the same as the one they are currently using? If that’s the case… why would they bother to change?
Play it too safe, you’ll never stand out in the crowd, so go on… Dare to be Different!
