Harrogate Tipple

Packaging designed for small-batch distillery based in the beautiful Ripley Castle Estate

Harrogate Tipple is a family-run, small-batch distillery based in the beautiful Ripley Castle Estate in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. The majority of their botanicals are grown in the 750-year-old gardens within the castle walls. The owners are incredibly passionate about their location, the environment and keeping everything as local as possible.

The Challenge

When Sally from Harrogate Tipple first reached out to me, she explained the challenge they were facing with Donnie the otter, the beloved mascot of their brand. All they had was a pencil sketch and a scanned image, which posed significant issues when they needed to scale Donnie for larger prints or use him in specific scenarios. My first task was clear: bring Donnie into the modern age by transforming him into a versatile, vectorised design.

The Result

After scanning, tracing, and refining, a sleek and modern version of Donnie was created. The updated design was clean, crisp, and scalable to any size. The next step was to develop new labels and product packaging for their range of Gins and Rum. The bottle and tube designs were kept minimalistic, exuding a premium and luxurious aesthetic. For the back labels, a unique touch was added with a custom illustration of Ripley Castle and its 750-year-old gardens, where many of the botanicals are sourced.

To complete the design, a thoughtfully curated colour palette was introduced to connect and distinguish between the products.

A refined and empathetic color palette was thoughtfully crafted to create a cohesive visual identity while distinctly highlighting the unique qualities of each product.
